distcc lets you use different computers for compilation in a network. In Gentoo, this is especially useful, because Gentoo-users compile all the time.
Note: I have not tested it with different distributions, architectures or compiler versions. It worked for me with three Gentoo 1.4/GCC 3.2 - Systems. It will probably not work with different compiler-versions.
